What kind of story is the Christian faith? It is certainly a different story than the other Holy books of the other world religions. The provability of the Christian teaching is what attracted me to Christianity.

Churches can have something about them that “stinks” to a first-time visitor, but perhaps the leadership doesn’t notice or remember. We can lose our fresh perspective—our “new eyes” or, as in my case, new nose. Many people will make up their minds whether or not they will return to your church long before a pastor stands up to preach. It’s easy for a church to drift into ineffectual ministry by not paying attention to the details of how the church looks and feels. We simply cannot afford to grow lax with the way our church presents itself to new guests, any more than we can grow easy with our discipleship, our worship, or our preaching. There’s simply too much at stake in the spiritual health and safety of visitors.

I was at work on Monday and around 3:00pm the sky grew dark, the winds picked up and a deluge came. Many of the employees at my office were concerned about driving home so we decided to close our office early because of the terrible storm. Who is your neighbor? The person along your path who is in need is your neighbor.

Dr. Schaeffer contemplates the reasons for modern society’s sorry state of affairs and argues for total affirmation of the Bible’s morals, values, and meaning. As I studied and prepared for the first session, The Roman Age, I was struck by the truths Dr. Schaeffer presented. He wrote this book in 1976 and later developed it into a video series that goes on location throughout the world to help explain these truths both visually and logically. As we watch and study together, one of my goals is that we will see the errors of past cultures and be able to relate it to our own culture today so that we can then make the better decisions in life. Christian and non-Christian employers should want to hire Christians because we should be the hardest working, most reliable and ethical people they can hire. Remember, we represent Jesus wherever we are.
